May 8th Celebration and Launch of the Middlesex Fund

Old friends, colleagues, supporters, Board Members, and special guests gathered on May 8, 2003 at the Burlington Marriott to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the non-profit, Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc (MPY) and to launch MPY's newest initiative, the Middlesex Fund.

Special guests included former Middlesex District Attorney Scott Harshbarger, former Middlesex District Attorney and current Attorney General Tom Reilly, MA Department of Education Commissioner David Driscoll, and MPY Board of Directors President Paul Andrews.

Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley hosted the evening, and provided a review of the impressive array of accomplishments of the non-profit since its inception, including:
  • Project Alliance, the flagship of training and outreach arm of MPY, which now trains over 3000 people each year, and boasts a membership of over 55 school districts, representing 44 communities, and including some private and parochial members.
  • START (School Tardiness and Attendance Review Team) Program, a collaborative effort representing MPY, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the Department of Social Services, the Middlesex Juvenile Court Department of Probation, and participating school and police departments.
  • SECURE (Safe, Effective Community Understanding for Response to Emergencies) a collaborative effort, led by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, supported by MPY, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Massachusetts Department of Education, North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and local schools, and several local police and fire departments which offers ongoing training and technical support to assist each city and town in Middlesex in the planning, development, and maintenance of practical, multi-disciplinary school safety plans.
  • The Middlesex College Alliance, created by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office in partnership with MPY, and providing college and university administrators, student services staff, and campus public safety officials in Middlesex the opportunity to meet and discuss new and emerging public safety issues affecting their campuses.
  • The Middlesex Fund, the newest initiative, designed to house fundraising efforts to assist in the development of youth-focused projects and programs by MPY and its partners.

A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL. If you would like more information about how you can make a donation to the Middlesex Fund or to any of the activities of MPY, please contact Jacqueline Kral, Executive Director, at 617-591-7765.
