“What is the most important thing you want your child to learn in school this year?” Parents respond to this question annually with statements about wishing their child could develop skills in social and emotional learning. At all levels of schooling, particularly middle schools, educators, counselors and administrators are continuously working to help students develop the social and emotional skills that are critical in the context of demanding academic environments. In this workshop, JFK Middle School will share with how they have developed and continue to build a middle school where Developmental Design guides the culture and philosophy of our community in social, emotional, and academic learning.
